Former Florida quarterback Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals have reworked his contract for the upcoming 2026 season, according to ESPN.
Brissett will make $15.5 million guaranteed this season, with a chance to make up to $21 million. The new deal does not add years to the two-year contract he signed ahead of last season, but it raises his take-home salary to the fourth-lowest in the NFL.
Initially signed as a backup, Brissett took over the starting role in Arizona in Week 6 after Kyler Murray went down with an injury. Murray signed with the Minnesota Vikings this offseason after being released, making Brissett the presumed starter in 2026. Although head coach Matt LaFleur didn't name him the starter outright, he said that Brissett will take first-team reps.
The deal took months to rework, as Brissett sat out voluntary OTAs and minicamp. He reported to training camp on Wednesday.
"It's business. It's part of this game. And being here, obviously wanting to be out there with the guys ... that causes another stressor," Brissett said. "But just glad it's over with and moving forward."
Brissett played for Florida from 2011-2012. He served as the backup to John Brantley in 2011, making two starts and appearing in eight games. He competed with Jeff Driskel for the starting job in 2012, getting the nod against Bowling Green. However, Driskel ended up starting the rest of the season.
Brissett transferred to NC State in 2013. After sitting out a year, he threw for 2,606 yards and 23 touchdowns as the Wolfpack's starter. In 2015, he had 2,662 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. The New England Patriots selected him in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
