As a third-team All-Big Ten selection in 2024-25, point guard Jackson Shelstad was always going to command tons of attention if he ever entered the transfer portal. That became a reality once the portal opened on Apr. 5, ending his time with the Oregon Ducks after three seasons.
News quickly broke that Shelstad had narrowed his interest down to two schools: the Arizona Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals, with visits scheduled to both.
On Thursday, it appears that one program is emerging over the other, as 247 Sports has logged a crystal ball prediction for Louisville to land the commitment of Shelstad.
The Cardinals are coming off a campaign in which they went 24-11 overall and 11-7 in ACC play. They made the NCAA Tournament as a six seed and defeated the South Florida Bulls in the first round before falling to the No. 3 Michigan State Spartans in the Round of 32.
Both Arizona and Louisville make sense for Shelstad's prospects as the presumed starting point guard, as the Wildcats are losing starting guard and Big 12 Player of the Year Jaden Bradley, who has exhausted his eligibility, and the Cardinals are dealing with the departures of talented freshman Mikel Brown Jr. to the draft and Ryan Conwell, who is a senior.
From day one, Shelstad would likely walk in as the starting point guard for both programs. During his time as a Duck, the Oregon native averaged 13.6 points and 3.0 assists per game, developing a reputation as one of the more clutch shot-makers in the country.
And while he may still follow through with his visit to Arizona, Louisville has emerged as the favorite to land Shelstad's talents. He'll likely have two seasons of eligibility remaining, as he battled a hand injury that limited him to 12 games last season.
