Jan. 10—BEMIDJI — The referees arms must be sore after the Bemidji High School girls hockey team's game against River City.
The Blades and the Lumberjacks combined for 15 penalties as River City skated to a 5-2 win Saturday at the Bemidji Community Arena.
BHS committed nine penalties, although it didn't give up a power play goal. River City's Callie Alphin and Caitlin Easton scored 4-on-4 goals in the second period, the only goals scored with a Lumberjack in the box.
The Lumberjacks scored the game's only power play goal, with Bergen Bakke getting the 5-on-3 goal for the Jacks in the second period. Naomi Johnson scored later in the period to make it 3-2, but the Blades would score two more before the period came to a close. A scoreless third period clinched the win for River City.
Goaltender Lily Lauer was busy, stopping 39 shots.
