A pair of Oklahoma City Comets swept the Pacific Coast League honors on Monday. Outfielder Jack Suwinski was named player of the week, and Ryder Ryan was the pitcher of the week for the Triple-A Dodgers affiliate.

Suwinski homered four times in five games last week on the road against the Charlotte Knights, collecting 12 hits in 22 at-bats while hitting .545/.565/1.182 with two doubles, five runs scored, snd nine runs batted in. He homered twice on Friday.

The 27-year-old outfielder was claimed off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates on February 21. He cleared waivers and was sent outright off the 40-man roster on March 2. Suwinski is holding his own near the top of the PCL leaderboards with teammate James Tibbs III this season:

  • Tibbs: .307/.422/.614, 159 wRC+, 19 HR, 38 XBH, 62 runs, 59 RBI
  • Suwinski: .306/.401/.616, 150 wRC+, 17 HR, 36 XBH, 58 runs, 54 RBI

Ryan pitched twice in bulk relief last week in Charlotte, totaling 6 2/3 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts while allowing only two singles and a walk. He earned the win last Tuesday with four scoreless frames.

High-A postseason battle

The first half of the Midwest League ends midweek, on Thursday this week, and the Great Lakes Loons are embroiled in a three-team battle for a postseason berth.

East Division
Great Lakes 35-26
Lake County 35-26
Dayton 36-27

Those three teams are virtually tied. Great Lakes hosts Lake County this week, plus a doubleheader on Wednesday so they each have four games remaining in the first half. Dayton is on the road at Peoria.

Here is a matrix on who makes the playoffs depending on wins this week.

GL makes the playoffs in 9 scenarios (45.0%)
LC makes the playoffs in 7 scenarios (35.0%)
DAY makes the playoffs in 4 scenarios (20.0%)

However, if DAY wins all 3, GL or LC need to sweep to clinch. pic.twitter.com/mcLUPK6gnY
