Los Angeles Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz will undergo go Tommy John surgery, per the Orange County Register’s Jeff Fletcher.
The surgery will keep Kochanowicz out for the remainder of the season, and likely take some time off of his year in 2027.
Kochanowicz, 25, has been a staple in the Angels’ rotation all season, but has struggled over the past month. His last start came against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Freeway Series, where he came out of the game after allowing seven runs in 0.1 innings pitched.
The Angels placed Kochanowicz on the injured list Sunday, calling up left-hander Sam Aldegheri in his place.
Kochanowicz has a 6.19 ERA this season, throwing 64 innings across 13 starts for the Angels. He has 47 strikeouts during those games.
The Angels have not announced who will replace Kochanowicz in the rotation for the remainder of the year.

The right-hander’s first start of the year didn’t go according to plan, as he allowed six runs in four innings pitched against the Astros, but he had a solid run of games in the month following.
He threw 5.2 scoreless innings in his second start of the season, striking out seven, then had a seven-inning performance during which he allowed just one earned run.
His next three starts came against the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox, and he didn’t allow more than three runs in any of them.

In May, though, things began to fall apart for Kochanowicz. He only allowed two runs in his first start of the month, which lasted 6.2 innings, but shipped six earned runs in both of his starts afterwards.
In his final three starts of May, Kochanowicz allowed 11 earned runs through 12.1 innings pitched.
The Angels will hope their young starter has a steady recovery and returns to the rotation at full strength next season.
