Maybe the Detroit Tigers’ rotation won’t be that crowded, after all.
The Tigers are set to get left-hander Tarik Skubal and right-hander Casey Mize back from the injured list this weekend, but righty Jack Flaherty – the only Tigers starter not to miss a start this season for injury or suspension, exited early from the Tigers’ road game against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field on Friday, June 12.
Flaherty departed after three innings Friday, having allowed two runs on three hits and a walk, with one strikeout, on 63 pitches. The Tigers later announced his exit as a result of “lower leg discomfort.”

Flaherty was replaced by reliever Jacob Waguespack, himself a new Tiger after his call-up from Triple-A this week (following a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday). Waguespack threw a scoreless inning while allowing one hit and one walk.
Flaherty has struggled this season, the second of his second stint with the franchise. The two runs allowed Friday raised his ERA to 5.35 on the season.
In addition to Skubal and Mize, the Tigers have righty Keider Montero – who threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings on Thursday –left-hander Framber Valdez and rookie righty Troy Melton. Veteran Justin Verlander, 43, completed his second rehab start on Wednesday in Triple-A.
