Veteran safety Jabrill Peppers broke his silence after signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, following his surprising release from the New England Patriots.

The Patriots turned heads with their decision to cut him after keeping him on the initial 53-man roster. When asked for a reason, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel vaguely stated it was for "a lot of reasons."

Peppers, a former team captain, admitted that getting traded or cut is the norm in the NFL, but he is happy he ended up in Pittsburgh.

“It just is what it is. Sometimes you know you're not good enough. You play a long time in this league, you’re gonna get traded or cut," Peppers told assembled media members. "It is what it is, I’m happy (Steelers coach Mike) Tomlin made the call. He’s a coach I definitely said I wanted to play for before I retire.”

Peppers recorded 170 combined tackles, 10 pass deflections, three interceptions and a sack in 38 games with the Patriots. The former Michigan star was an integral part of the Patriots' defense during his time with the team.

New England won't have to wait long to face Peppers in the black and gold. The Steelers are slated for a trip to Foxborough to face the Patriots in Week 3.
