The Memphis Grizzlies' postseason run concluded with a 4-0 sweep by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs. Despite the early exit, Grizzlies star Ja Morant remained defiant during his exit interview, suggesting that the series outcome could have been different had he not suffered a hip injury in Game 3.

Memphis struggled against Oklahoma City throughout the season, losing all four regular-season matchups before the playoff sweep. The Grizzlies' closest contest came in Game 4, a narrow 117-115 loss at home. In Game 3, Memphis built a 29-point lead before Morant's injury, after which the Thunder mounted a historic comeback to win 114-108. Morant missed the remainder of that game and did not play in Game 4.

The reporter clarified that while the Thunder hadn't won the championship, they were still competing in the playoffs. Morant replied:

"Yeah, I've been the second seed too."

Morant was referring to the 2022 season, when the Grizzlies finished as the Western Conference's second seed but ultimately got outdone by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round.

The Grizzlies' early exit from the playoffs has cast a big shadow on the future of its core, with Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. currently being paraded in trade talks. Memphis will look to build a championship contending team during the offseason, although it remains to be seen if both stars will be with the franchise next year.

As for the Thunder, they await their second round opponents—the winner of the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers series.
