Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase didn’t really pull any punches when asked about the state of the team this week during Super Bowl media sessions.

During an appearance alongside Tee Higgins on Pat McAfee’s show, Chase got out in front of tough questions and admitted that he’s already talked with Zac Taylor about what the team needs.

And yes, he’s right with Bengals fans: It’s all about the defense.

“I’m pretty sure that everyone knows what we need,” Chase said. “I’m not going to say what we need but I talked to Zac about that…I’m definitely pushing to get something good for the defensive side, we just need something of course, you know, somebody.”

On a different show during the week, Chase and Higgins name-dropped a trade for Maxx Crosby as one idea, so there’s that.

Of course, Chase talking with Taylor about moves the team needs is quite different than talking with Duke Tobin or any of the big decision-makers above the head coach in the organization.

Still, it’s something. And after Tobin was available to the media for the first time after the season recently, it’s clear the pressure is currently felt at Paycor Stadium.

Two of the Bengals’ biggest franchise cornerstones hitting an international interview circuit and talking about the need for upgrades is certainly a big development.
