After falling out of the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft, despite being invited to the green room, Isaiah Evans found his NBA home Wednesday, going No. 33 overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves. With Maliq Brown and Cameron Boozer heading to the Spurs and Grizzlies, respectively, all Duke alumni from the 2026 draft will be playing in the Western Conference.
Following Evans' selection, the former Duke sharpshooter spoke about which new teammate he looks to learn the most from, and his answer may surprise you. Instead of choosing four-time All-Star Anthony Edwards, whom people believe to be the obvious choice, Evans highlighted Jaden McDaniels for his exceptional defense, saying, "Jaden McDaniels is a lot bigger than me, but I'm really interested in learning from him how to affect the game on the defensive side as much as he does."
A player selected for his offensive upside, Evans is wise to strive for improvements on the defensive end. If he is able to develop well defensively behind McDaniels and Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch, he'll be able to carve out minutes as a serviceable "3-and-D" player, a role that couldn't be more valuable in today's NBA.
