After an official league review of Game 3 between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks, the NBA had a big Victor Wembanyama decision to make.

Wembanyama was not charged with a foul for a possession involving Jalen Brunson, though the league admitted that was a mistake. However, after much deliberation, the NBA also decided to not upgrade the call to a flagrant foul.

Precisely zero people were calling for a suspension to be in imposed. That would’ve been ridiculous.

But it’s also ridiculous to pretend that wasn’t definitionally a Flagrant 1. It should’ve been adjudicated as such.

I don’t understand why it wasn’t.

This was a particularly impactful decision because if the Spurs superstar reached four flagrant points in the postseason, he would be subject to suspension and miss Game 4 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.

San Antonio currently trails in the series, 2-1, and Wembanyama would be a massive player to miss any game.
