New England Patriots defensive tackle Milton Williams has been on the mend since suffering a high ankle sprain against the New York Jets back in November. He was placed on injured reserve and is required to miss four games before he's eligible to return.

He will not be back for Sunday’s contest with the Baltimore Ravens

Head coach Mike Vrabel was optimistic about Williams, indicating that he expected to get him back before the end of the season. He is eligible to return in Week 17 against the New York Jets. Once he starts practicing, the team has up to 21 days to activate him.

Williams has been a key piece of the Patriots' defense this season. He has tallied 27 tackles and 3.5 sacks over the course of the year. He has provided pass-rushing help as well as the ability to help stop the run. The Patriots have struggled against the run in recent weeks, allowing 134 rushing yards per game over the course of their last three outings.

Williams' return cannot come soon enough, as the team looks for a defensive presence to cloud the middle and get to the quarterback. He has been one of the biggest free-agent signings for the Patriots this season and has earned every bit of his massive $104 million contract.
