The Philadelphia 76ers will look to punch their ticket to the postseason when they host the Orlando Magic for an NBA Play-In Tournament game on Wednesday night.

With a victory over Orlando, the Sixers will secure the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference and a first-round matchup with the rival Boston Celtics.

Joel Embiid ruled out of Play-In Tournament game vs. Magic due to appendectomy recovery

Unfortunately for the Sixers, they won't have the services of their star center for the important contest.

Joel Embiid has been officially ruled out of the game due to appendectomy recovery. No timeline for a potential return for Embiid has been provided. Perhaps if the Sixers are able to advance past Orlando Embiid will ultimately be able to return during the postseason, but that's purely speculative at this point.

During the regular season, Embiid played in 38 games for Philadelphia and averaged 26.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.2 blocks per performance.

If the Sixers lose to Orlando without Embiid, all hope isn't lost. In that scenario, they would then play the Charlotte Hornets in a do-or-die game for the East's eighth seed and a first-round showdown with the top-seeded Detroit Pistons.

The Sixers bested the Magic in two of the three regular season meetings between the teams.
