Is it possible that Suggs is pulling a Wadsworth? "Honored to play for the Cards"

and then hold us hostage during contract negotiations? Terrell Suggs will be holding all the "cards" when and if we take him either at #6 or if we trade up to the 3rd spot to take him. He would be the #1 need for a team desperate to get heat on the quarterback. He will be a hot commodity that the radio stations and television stations will side with and bash the Cards for not "showing him the money".

This, "I would be honored to play for the Cardinals" stuff worries me. I know that his situation is different because he is an Arizona native, but it still worries me. The Cardinals were gaga over Wadsworth because he publically came out and said he wanted to play in Arizona (not exactly something that many bigname talents list as their top choice). Suggs probably is in about the same league as Wadsworth when Wads was coming out in 1998. We all know how the Wadsworth saga played out, but when he was drafted in 1998 their were people who rated him the very best defensive linemen ever to be drafted.

Anybody ever heard a Terrell Suggs interview? He sounds an awful lot like an intelligent Simeon Rice. I heard his interview that he gave at the combine where he was quoted as saying the "the state of Arizona is in love with me, but I need to be in training on the west coast to get ready for the draft". The reporter asked if that meant that he was not wanting to play for the Cardinals and he responded very tongue in cheek-"We could probably work something out". I interpreted that to be, sure I'll play for the Cards, but they better be ready to pay bigtime.

He'll demand the same amount of money any other player in the #6 hole will demand. It's all pretty slotted at this point and the only demands he could make would be tiered bonuses and stuff like Bryant did. Except of course if we take Leftwich like you've been advocating, then he'll hold us up for more because he's a QB.

Do I detect a bit of sarcasm, Ed? I would love to have Terrell Suggs as much as anyone. Not to beat my chest, but I was the guy who started the first Terrell Suggs thread on this board way back in September. Not a word was spoken about the guy before I brought him up in September.

Still wouldn't mind Leftwich either.

I think it was different with Wadsworth, because he was taken 3rd behind two QB's, and he argued that since we traded down from the spot that a QB was taken, he should get more money.

Plus most of the issue with Wads was voidables and escalators, which Bidwill didn't want to give him

Suggs comments

I think the top players have all been well instructed by there agents what to say & what not to say regarding were they will go in the draft. So I don't read anything negative in Suggs comments.

My draft board today is;
1. Suggs
2. Leftwich
3. Palmer
4. Newman
One of which I expect to be available at #6.

Yes...he is pulling a Wadsworth. They both said they wanted to be here, and were telling the truth. Hell, Wadsaworth is STILL here, he's a productive member of the community, and if he wouldn't have been injured for the first time in his life, and gone to Steadman, he could have been "that" good.

Suggs is an Arizona guy. His family is here. His brothers are going to ASU. You think he's gonna be an a-hole? I don't think so.

Trade up to three, whatever it takes, break the bank. He's not only going to be a star player, but a quote machine that would improve our national image. (perception)

didn't jeff blake mention that he talked to two guys about the cards before signing: Big and wadsworth. he said both said good things about playing here..of course with Big - what do you expect..but wadsworth could have ripped the place..sounds like he did not..really does not have much to do with this thread..just an FYI..

No, no, none at all. Sorry if that seemed cross. It's just a simple fact that QBs always demand more and I thought i remembered you as a "Leftwich guy"

And for the record, I remember that exact thread you posted about Suggs, I was the first person to respond to it, I think it was something about him not being available in the "teens" (which is where we all thought we'd be picking at the time.

He's stating a simple fact. He did mention Suggs before anyone else.

The last paragraph, you are taking it out of context. What he meant by saying, "the state of Arizona is in love with me, but I need to be in training on the west coast to get ready for the draft," was that the distractions of training for the draft in Arizona were too much.

He has too many friends here, so it would be better to get away and train in Cali.
