Is Alex Cora On Hot Seat Amid Red Sox's Disappointing Start? originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox have underperformed over the first four weeks of the 2026 season, going 9-15 to start the season.
Nothing's gone right for the Red Sox. They're not hitting well, pitching well or playing good defense. They're also getting depleted by injuries, which isn't helping.
Boston fans and media are becoming increasingly frustrated with the team's slow start and are looking for someone to blame. As the manager, Alex Cora is an easy target.
With the Red Sox off to another poor start under his watch, is Cora on the hot seat? MLB insider Ken Rosenthal doesn't think so.
"An early move with Alex Cora, who is in the second year of a three-year, $21.75 million contract, seems unlikely," Rosenthal wrote for The Athletic on Monday (subscription required).
Cora just led Boston to the playoffs last year and is under contract through 2027, so the organization will likely have some patience with him and give him a fairly long leash.
After all, it's hard to blame Cora too much for the Red Sox's shortcomings. The roster has flaws and many players are simply underperforming, so there's not much he can do about that. He's been tinkering with the lineup on a nightly basis, but nothing seems to be working.
Boston has a lot of problems right now, but the manager isn't one of them.
