Two teams, two contrasting stories, one trophy that is what we have come down to in the match no 74 of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League.
To concur to the fact to their consistency, it is between table toppers from this season. Royal Challengers Bengaluru come bit North-West at the Narendra Modi Stadium having been the most complete side in this IPL, bristling with confidence and carrying the weight of a defending champion. Rajat Patidar's side have crossed 200 multiple times and having hammered these very opponents by 92 runs in Qualifier 1. Kohli, Padikkal, Patidar and David have terrorised bowlers all season long.
Gujarat Titans arrive at their own fortress, battered after Qualifier 1 but unbowed, having fought their way back through Qualifier 2 with the kind of quiet determination that has defined their entire season.
The key battle will be fought with the ball. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has taken 26 wickets this season and has been relentless from the Powerplay. Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam and Krunal Pandya have supported him admirably. But GT have Kagiso Rabada, who leads the Purple Cap standings with 28 wickets, and Mohammed Siraj alongside him. The pair has bowled 165 and 162 dot balls respectively this season
RCB are the favourites here and it is not difficult to understand why. Their firepower comes from the top, where Virat Kohli has led the charge, with Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar following close behind. The middle and lower order has complemented them beautifully and their bowling has been balanced enough to make them an exceptionally difficult side to beat in any conditions.
But make no mistake, Gujarat Titans are a different beast entirely at Ahmedabad. Rabada and Siraj have made some of the finest batting attacks look like village cricketers this season.
Gill, Sudharsan and Buttler have carried this GT side on their shoulders and have had the capability to take any bowling attack apart on home soil on their day.
There is a scenario where GT's bowling holds RCB to somewhere around 200, and then Sudharsan and Gill make hay on a surface they have known and loved all season. That is not beyond the realms of possibility. But that scenario narrows the bandwidth considerably, because ultimately this is a team game, and RCB have too many batting options for any bowling attack to contain for long. Their bowling has complemented that batting brilliantly throughout this tournament.
RCB to win.

The hard, red soil of Ahmedabad has historically favoured batters and Sunday's final looks no different. The surface has produced an average first innings score of 193 this season, with teams scoring at 9.17 runs per over.
Pace bowlers have thrived here too, with Rabada and Siraj having their day out here. Spinners have had little say, so expect a high-scoring, pace-dominated final.

120 runs could very well come in sixes. If any of hitters from the both teams do have a day out we are in for feast.

RCB are likely to name an unchanged side from the one that dismantled GT in Qualifier 1, having found a combination that has worked brilliantly for them. The one question mark hanging over their selection is the fitness of Phil Salt, who has been a devastating presence at the top of the order when available. Should Salt pass fit in time for Sunday, he could come straight back into the XI.
GT could bring back Arshad Khan in the mix as he has done well at Narendra Modi Stadium.
Here's how both sides are likely to line up in this game.
Venkatesh Iyer, Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (c), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Tim David, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jacob Duffy, Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam Dar
Impact player: Romario Shepherd, Jordan Cox
Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (C), Jos Buttler (WK), Washington Sundar, Nishant Sindhu, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Arshad Khan , Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.
