The Iowa State Cyclones have their guy after countless rumors and conversations bubbling up in the college basketball world. After being linked to many high-profile jobs, including the head coaching gig at North Carolina, Iowa State head coach T.J. Otzelberger is staying in Ames for a while.
T.J. Otzelberger and the Iowa State Cyclones have agreed to a massive 10-year contract that will keep him there and pay him $6 million per year. The new deal quiets speculation that some of the blue bloods in college basketball raised with Otzelberger's name consistently being floated during hiring cycles.
His success at Iowa State, which has seen him completely turn the program around, has earned that sort of speculation. While with the Cyclones, Otzelberger has amassed a 124-52 overall record and a 54-38 record in Big 12 play over the last five seasons. The season before he arrived in Ames, the Cyclones won just two games during the 2020 season.
He began his career at South Dakota State from 2016 to 2019, where he made two NCAA Tournament trips before spending two seasons with UNLV. He owns a career head coaching record of 223-115.
