The Seattle Seahawks will almost certainly have a new starting right guard in 2027. Starter Anthony Bradford is on an expiring contract and his play hasn't warranted John Schneider to sign him to a contract extension. The Seahawks may have an in-house solution already on the roster, but the 2027 NFL draft will provide them with an alternate opportunity.
There is fading hope that 2024 third-round pick Christian Haynes can be Bradford's successor. Schneider spent a 2026 fifth-round pick on former Iowa guard Beau Stephens. The Seahawks will spend this season learning more about Stephens, but the Hawkeyes also happen to be developing another guard at the college football level that will command attention this Fall.
Iowa guard Kade Pieper is already an outstanding run blocker on tape. He explodes off the snap en route to earning a run-blocking grade of 83.5 from Pro Football Focus last season. Pieper was also stout in pass protection, allowing just one sack and 10 pressures.
The Seahawks learned first-hand how a first-round guard could totally transform the offense. Grey Zabel had a huge impact on the Super Bowl 60-winning team. Hopefully the Seahawks already have Bradford's eventual successor on the roster, but if not, Pieper could be worth the Seahawks using another first-round pick on the position.
