After joining the Iowa Hawkeyes earlier this year as an offensive analyst, Jay Norvell is seeing his role shift into a new one with a recent transition. He is transitioning into a much larger role in Kirk Ferentz's program.
Norvell is back at Iowa after his playing career and a short stint as a graduate assistant before beginning his coaching path that led him to ultimately being a head coach at Nevada and Colorado State.
The former Iowa Hawkeye, who played for the program from 1982 to 1985, is moving from the role of an offensive analyst to the Hawkeyes' new running backs coach. This move comes after Omar Young departed the program to make the jump to the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jay Norvell is inheriting an incredibly talented running back group that is oozing with talent and experience. Returning from last year's squad are key contributors Kamari Moulton, Xavier Williams, and Nathan McNeil. Joining them via the transfer portal is L.J. Phillips, a First-Team All-American last year at South Dakota, who ran for 1,921 yards.
With Iowa ushering in a new era at quarterback with Jeremy Hecklinski or Hank Brown taking over the reins, Norvell and his group are going to shoulder a lot of the load offensively and will need to build upon a strong run of years running the ball effectively.
