The FSU Seminoles wasted no time replacing linebacker commit Gregory Batson in their 2027 recruiting class after he decommitted on Wednesday. Three-star linebacker Olrick Johnson III committed to the Seminoles on Thursday, announcing the news on social media.
Johnson picked FSU over the Virginia Tech Hokies, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Arkansas Razorbacks, and NC State Wolfpack. He officially visited the Seminoles on June 5, his second time since they offered him a scholarship on March 3.
He is ranked as the No. 1,150 overall player and No. 102 linebacker in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 130 player from Georgia. His addition means FSU once again has two linebackers committed, with four-star Jernard Albright being their highest-ranked commit.
While it is never good to lose a player, new linebackers coach Ernie Sims did a good job quickly replacing Barson with Johnson, who had a productive junior season at Harrison High School. He finished the year with 100 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in 11 games.
Johnon's addition gives FSU 10 members in their 2027 recruiting class, with six set to play on defense. The group is ranked as the 51st-best class overall and the 14th-best in the ACC by 247Sports.
