Dennis Schmitt hopes for instant success as Eintracht Frankfurt interim coach on Wednesday to keep alive the chance of progressing in the Champions League.
Frankfurt have four points and could still make the last 16 play-offs if they win at Qarabag on Wednesday and against Tottenham Hotspur next week.
"We have a huge opportunity tomorrow to secure ourselves a final at home next week. The lads are really fired up for it," Schmitt told reporters on Tuesday.
Under-21 coach Schmitt was appointed on Sunday after the dismissal of Dino Toppmöller, and said he is "very satisfied with the first two days.
"We are travelling with a good feeling, we have taken a big step forward," he said.
Frankfurt's main concern is defence where they have conceded a joint-worst 39 goals in the Bundesliga and a joint-second worst 16 in the Champions League.
‘We have important matches ahead of us. We need to change things as quickly as possible and win games," Schmitt said.
"We need to be more united and get to grips with the problems we're having with conceding goals."
Schmitt also has few options in attack in Azerbaijan because newly signed Arnaud Kalimuendo, Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab and Younes Ebnoutalib are not eligible. Ebnoutalib is also injured, just as Jonathan Burkardt and Michy Batshuayi.
Captain Robin Koch meanwhile thanked Toppmöller on behalf of the whole team and added: "That's how it is in football sometimes – we now need to look ahead."
