Insider reveals Bo Bichette's chances of being traded by Mets originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Major League Baseball trade deadline is fast approaching.
As things stand, the New York Mets should be in full sell mode in the coming weeks.
New York's front office, run by president of baseball operations David Stearns, should be smart with its approach.
Players on expiring contracts should seriously be considered as trade chips. But other household names, like Bo Bichette, may be sticking around for the rest of the season.
"Regardless of whether the Mets want to keep him, Bo Bichette’s chances of getting dealt before the deadline are slim because of his contract," The Athletic's Will Sammon wrote Monday.
Bichette, a two-time All-Star with a .689 OPS and 10 home runs in 90 games, has player options for the next two seasons.
Those options complicate the infielder's future, both in the short and long term.
"Bichette holds player options for 2027 and 2028, each worth $42 million. Generally speaking, there aren’t many teams willing to spend that much money on a player to begin with," Sammon added. "A potential lockout next season and Bichette’s performance in 2026 only exacerbate the risk."

That may leave the Mets with no other option than to hold on to the 28-year-old.
There's another factor: Bichette has a no-trade clause in his contract, so any trade the Mets make with another organization would have to be approved by the player.
Chances are, Bichette will stick in Queens for the remainder of 2026.
