Entering the 2026 NBA offseason, Indiana Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard hinted at the team having an aggressive mindset. That led to fans speculating about potential moves the team could make.

One of the big rumblings has had to do with New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III. In order to get him, the Pacers would have to give up a lot in a trade.

That being said, a new update has been shared from Indiana general manager Chad Buchanan. His mindset seems to be different than what Pritchard hinted at.

Recently, Buchanan spoke to the media about the Pacers' offseason. He made it clear that Indiana isn't expecting to make any major moves. Instead, the team will focus on improving its overall depth.

"This core of this group we believe in. They've shown things to us to have reason to believe in them. We're going to be very selective in what we do. If you're expecting an earth-shattering, ground-breaking move, I'm not going to say that's going to happen. We're always going to be opportunistic if the right deal comes along in a trade or if the free agency process plays out and we have a player we like we'll try to pounce on that opportunity," Buchanan said.

"But I think our priority is to add depth to this team. We like our core. We like our starting five. We like some pieces off our bench, but I think the reason we had successful playoff runs is because of the depth of our team. We'd like to get back to the depth we had on those runs."

Buchanan's comments suggest that Indiana will focus more on moves around the edges. The team feels that it has the starting lineup to win a championship. Adding pieces who can contribute off of the bench seems to be the priority.

In addition to the above comments, Buchanan also spoke out about what areas he would like to improve on the roster.

"The wing position would be one," Buchanan said. "If we can add some wing depth, that would help. We'll see where we're at with the center spot. Those would be in the two positions that if you had to prioritize something."

Obviously, that mindset would not include trading for a player like Murphy. Recent reports have suggested that the Pelicans are looking for three first-round picks for him.

Instead, the Pacers sound like they'll target a much lower tier player. Perhaps someone like Saddiq Bey or Gary Trent Jr. could make sense to add more scoring off of the bench. There are plenty of bargain big men Indiana could target as well.

Expect to hear more rumors about the Pacers as free agency approaches. They have a little bit of financial wiggle room to make a move and a trade is always on the table.

Hopefully, Buchanan and the front office are able to make at least a couple of moves to improve the roster this offseason. If the team doesn't make any kind of impact addition, fans are going to be very displeased.
