Just a day after the Indiana Fever's (4-4) disappointing 100-84 loss to the Portland Fire (6-4) on May 30, IndyStar reporter Chloe Peterson was forced to take quick action on Sunday night as she disavowed a baseless report shared by former ESPN and Fox Sports host Skip Bayless that claimed head coach Stephanie White had been terminated.
Bayless' post on X stated that videos circulating online of a dispute between Caitlin Clark and Stephanie White during a timeout on Sunday were the last straw for the head coach's employment, and even suggested that Clark desires a familiar voice, like Iowa women's basketball coach Jan Jensen, as a handpicked successor.
Peterson immediately refuted Bayless' claim, stating that the Fever have informed her that there is absolutely no validity to the unsubstantiated report and that White's status as head coach remains intact.
In an attempt to save face after being swiftly shut down by Peterson, Bayless chose to respond by altering his still baseless and erroneous claim about White's termination, which states that she may not be fired now but will not last much longer if confrontations between Clark and her continue.
Amid all this chaos, here are some of the best social media reactions from both Iowa Hawkeyes and Indiana Fever fans regarding the discourse between Bayless' inaccurate claims and Peterson's refutation:

For those that have seen Skip Bayless’ tweet about reports of Stephanie White being let go from the Fever: I’m told there is absolutely no validity to that report.
Stephanie White is still the head coach in Indiana.

This is completely untrue — and that’s straight from the team.

The fact that this post is still up is kinda embarrassing…
tell me you aren’t following actual WNBA journalists without telling me me https://t.co/lfLIoZAWjW

A source close to the Indiana Fever tells me Skip Bayless' report on Stephanie White being fired is “completely false.” White is still the head coach in Indiana.
Bayless fell for fake social media posts. https://t.co/M3xespxmkx

Someone with this big of a platform putting out false information is reckless.
Now Steph and CC will have to answer unnecessary questions because a non-story became a story. Again. https://t.co/n6M84UTnor

Thanks for confirming but it’s Skip. There’s a reason he’s not on tv anymore.

So I wasn't paying attention to the Fever discourse this weekend. Apparently it took some turns. Chloe, of course, out here making sense of things when people just say stuff. https://t.co/crr3z960jF

There’s not any part of me that would have ever cooked up a Skip Bayless-Stephanie White plot twist to this season. https://t.co/eZJPwstT4z

Skip Bayless fell for this post from a satire/trolling account. https://t.co/zHMjcpNRwh

It’s ok to admit when you’re wrong. It’s almost therapeutic to say, “I screwed up.”
Then there’s this… https://t.co/e76wigokhl

All the people who believed a single thing Bayless said regarding the W are just as dumb as he is. That man doesn’t know a thing about the league. Just how to insert his moronic takes for clicks. Been his whole career.
