After the Indiana Fever agreed to a WNBA record-setting contract extension with cornerstone forward Aliyah Boston on April 17, fans of both the franchise, teammates, media members, and players throughout the league weighed in on social media to give their reaction to the groundbreaking news.

The 4-year, $6.3 million contract extension makes Boston the highest-paid player (total salary) and first in WNBA history to sign a deal under the newly-created Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract (EPIC) provision.

This new provision was created under the new collective bargaining agreement, which enables top-performing players on rookie contracts to renegotiate the final year of their rookie contract as part of a multi-year extension, contingent upon being named to either the All-WNBA First or Second Team, or named Most Valuable Player within their first three years of play.

In the case of Boston, who was entering the 2026 season on the fourth and final year of her rookie contract, she was eligible for the new CBA's contract boost after being named to the All-WNBA Second Team in 2025.

With the historic nature of the announcement, here are some of the best social media reactions from Fever fans and others around the league:

“AB has become one of the most beloved players, not just in Indiana, but around the W and a role model for so many young fans.”

At 13% Year 1, and 10% each following year maximum projected cap growth Aliyah Boston’s contract with the Fever would be

2026 = $1,000,000
2027 = $1,582,000
2028 = $1,740,200
2029 = $1,914,220

4-year $6,236,420 https://t.co/Bhui7CWfPe
