BLOOMINGTON — Indiana basketball has added a familiar face to its roster for the FISU America Games. Former Hoosier Sam Alexis arrived in Peru on Tuesday morning and the program plans on playing him in the event starting with Thursday's game against Virgin Islands, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Alexis is fresh off a stint in the NBA Summer League playing for Oklahoma City. He averaged 3.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.

He slots into the role that SMU transfer Samet Yigitoglu is expected to fill this season. Yigitoglu, who is from Turkey, is able to practice with the team in Peru, but isn't eligible to represent Team USA in the event. Indiana is also without freshman signee Clemens Sokolov, an international player not expected to join the team until August.

Indiana opens group stage in the FISU American Games with a matchup against Peru on Tuesday night.
