The May 1 deadline to decide on fifth-year options for the 2022 NFL draft class has come and gone. There were 31 of 32 selections that needed to be made.
Of the 32 teams in the NFL, only 19 of those franchises had options to exercise due to selecting the player in the 2022 draft or by trading for one of the 32 selections. Players who did not get their fifth-year club option picked up will become unrestricted free agents following the 2025 season.
Per the collective bargaining agreement that was signed in 2020, teams can opt to exercise a fifth-year option on all rookie contracts for players selected in the fourth round. All other rookie contracts are four-year deals. The fifth-year option is a fully guaranteed contract based on four tiers per Over The Cap: Basic, playtime, a Pro Bowl selection, or multiple Pro Bowl selections.
In total, 19 fifth-year options from the 2022 NFL draft class were picked up, 12 options were declined, and one wasn't eligible. The full breakdown is as follows:
