Josh Whitman’s top assistant is leaving for a higher post.
Oklahoma announced Friday that it is hiring Illinois deputy athletic director and chief operating officer Roger Denny to be the university’s next athletic director.

According to ESPN, Denny’s legal background and skillset for the “new era” made him attractive for the Sooners.
“Oklahoma has a proud tradition in college athletics, and I am honored to join a university that competes with purpose and pride,” Denny said in a statement. “My focus will be on putting student-athletes first in everything we do, providing them the resources and support to excel in competition and in life.”
Denny spent the last four years at Illinois overseeing the football program and other projects and technologies.
