The NFL and all sports leagues have shown lately that anything is possible in terms of players being moved around. Whether it is players on the Vikings like Justin Jefferson, who continues to be thrown in hypotheticals, or JIOnathan Greenard, who was traded despite his value to the team.
As such, when a team has a player like that and is not winning, they can always be used in trade speculation. We have seen it in the NFL and NBA recently that no one is untouchable, as the likes of Myles Garrett, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and LaMelo Ball have shown. The latter got CBS Sports' Garrett Podell to think about other superstar trades that could happen.
One of those players is someone the Minnesota Vikings could find value in with cornerback Denzel Ward. The Cleveland Browns' top defender has been rumored to be moved prior, but now Podell thinks the door is open.
"Ward is set to enter the penultimate season of a five-year, $100.5 million contract extension, and he doesn't have any guaranteed money remaining on the pact, which makes him extremely tradeable. Plus, Ward would probably rather learn a new defensive playbook on a team with a shot at the postseason in 2026 than the team with the worst quarterback room in the NFL."
The Vikings signed James Pierre and still boast Isaiah Rodgers and Byron Murphy Jr., but they need more. The ability to defend the pass with a successful pass-rush is one thing, but having the secondary capitalize on rushed passes would be a game-changer for them.
