Newcastle United fans preparing for the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Less than three weeks to go now until Liverpool travel to St James’ Park.

An ‘interesting’ summer so far…

So many talking points.

An ideal time to get a snapshot of views from Newcastle United fans on their thoughts.

So we sent out questions to a number of regular/irregular contributors to The Mag, varying to a degree the questions that different fans received to answer.

Next up answering some questions is Darren Henderson:

Three words to describe how you currently feel as a Newcastle United fan?

Three words?? I could give you 3000!! I feel ANGRY, FRUSTRATED and CHEATED.

I feel like all the progress that Eddie Howe made in getting this club back to where it belongs has been thrown away

Three words to describe this summer 2026 NUFC transfer window so far?

Three words on current transfer window…JOKE, RISKY and INEFFECTIVE.

With the imminent sale of Bruno we are at serious risk of having no or little experience in midfield..why wasn’t his replacement sorted earlier..now we are going to be held to ransom financially.

Do you think Newcastle United would have had more or less chance of having a successful 2026/27 season if Eddie Howe had stayed?

Yes, if Eddie Howe had stayed I think we would have more chance of a successful season, although if he was not allowed to bring experience in it would have proved more challenging.

Hand on heart, what position do you currently believe Newcastle United are most likely to finish in the 2026/27 Premier League season?

I think we will finish 14th.

If Eddie Howe had stayed would your 2026/27 prediction have been different (up or down…)?

If Eddie Howe had stayed I would say around 8th.

Do you see a potential lack of leadership on the pitch next season if Bruno Guimaraes follows Kieran Trippier out of the club?

Yes, a total lack of leadership, and if Ross Wilson or Hopkinson can’t see this then we are in deep trouble.

The opening six league games are Liverpool home, Spurs away, Bournemouth home, Leeds away, Hull home and Coventry away. How many points would Newcastle need to take for you to be happy and what would you predict will be the reality?

I would like to think 10 points, unfortunately I think it will be nearer 5.

What do you see as the biggest priorities in the remainder of the transfer market this summer?

We cant afford to sell any more players in this transfer window and we are desperate for some experience coming in.

Sandro Tonali leaving, your thoughts?

Tonali leaving is a sleight on us as a club when you consider Spurs nearly got relegated last season, I know we got a good price and he’s got a hefty pay rise but for me the trend is worrying. There seems to be a queue of players to get out the door, Bruno for example has always professed his desire to remain here and yet now he’s joined the clamour for the exit door. This is particularly worrying for me, no other club seems to have this situation and it needs looking into.

By say Christmas and with all players fit, what do you predict will be the Newcastle United first choice eleven for the 2026/27 season and please put ‘new signing’ in any position where you think that will turn out to be the case.

By Xmas I think the team will be Hornicek, Tino, Thiaw, Botman/Burn, Hall, Miley, Joelinton, Bamba,/Ramsey, Toure, Wissa, Barnes

What would represent success now in the 2026/27 season for Newcastle United?

I think being in top 10 would be looked on as successful.

Predict the top six in the Premier League (in order) and which three clubs will be relegated in 2026/27.

I think top 6 will be 1st Arsenal, 2nd Liverpool 3rd Man City, 4th Chelsea, 5th Man Utd 6th Aston Villa.

Hull City, Ipswich and Coventry will be relegated.

Which eight current Newcastle United players (in order) are going to be most important for the 2026/27 season?

I think Malick Thiaw, Lewis Hall, Tino, Dan Burn, Joelinton, Wissa, Barnes, Ramsey are gonna be crucial to us next season.

NUFC CEO David Hopkinson said the intention is that by 2030 the club will be competing to win all competitions. What do you make of what he said?

What David Hopkinson said was incredibly irresponsible and stupid. It just about sums him and our owners up, no one in our hierarchy seems to have any idea on the running of a football club.

How would you rate your optimism for next season at Newcastle United from 0-100?

My optimism for next season is running approx 20 out of 100.

How important (or not) is a huge new stadium for Newcastle United?

A new stadium would no doubt help with SCR through revenue streams but our owners, I fear , are not interested.

When the takeover happened on 7 October 2021, if somebody at that point had told you then what would happen by August 2026, would you have taken it?

I would absolutely have taken what has happened in just under 5 years, with 2 cup finals, 2 Champions League campaigns, and excellent football.

What thoughts do you have on the 2026 World Cup finals overall?

I thought the World Cup 2026 was a farce and too many games.

Bruno Guimaraes wanting to leave Newcastle United after four and a half years, has that changed your opinion of him as a person?

Bruno leaving is just another player who is desperate to leave. Like I said earlier regarding Tonali, what is the reason that some players are so desperate to leave ? He will no doubt be the new Rat and I can understand the fans’ reaction. Yes, it has changed my opinion of him.

Who would you have liked to see replace Eddie Howe, Matthias Jaissle or somebody else?

I wasn’t prepared for Eddie Howe leaving so I m struggling to answer this. What I will say is I’m not sure any manager of standing would work for this shambles, so Matthias Jaissle fits as he’s only moving within the organisation (Liam Rosenior anyone?).
