HSV coach Merlin Polzin hopeful of keeping Tottenham loanee Luka Vuskovic

Luka Vuskovic has been a major success at Hamburger SV since joining on loan from Tottenham Hotspur last summer.

Given the young centre-back's strong performances, keeping him beyond the end of the season could be a challenge – but HSV coach Merlin Polzin hasn’t given up hope.

“I’m a believer. Of course, I also have a football-romantic belief in things that are hard to imagine,” Polzin told Bild.

“Still, there is a clear contractual agreement between the clubs,” he added, referring to the fact that Vuskovic is set to return to Tottenham in the summer as things stand.

Would Luka Vuskovic like to stay at HSV?​


Having previously expressed openness to remaining at Hamburger SV, Vuskovic told Sport Bild last month that he wants to make a decision after the World Cup with Croatia.

“We will decide after the World Cup what comes next, what is best for me,” Vuskovic said.

One factor that could influence his decision is the chance to play alongside his brother, Mario Vuskovic, who is suspended until October due to a doping ban.

So far, the 18-year-old defender has made 21 appearances for HSV, scoring four goals.
