HS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: District 2 athletes post good performances at PTFCA Carnival

More than a dozen athletes from District 2 competed at the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association Indoor Carnival at Lehigh University last weekend.

Dallas’ Julia Natitus, Wilkes-Barre Area’s Jazaiah McCoy, and teammate Da’von Underwood had first-place finishes with outstanding performances. Several athletes from the Lackawanna Track Conference posted conference-best marks in their events.

Natitus won the girls’ 400-meter dash with a time of 58.26 seconds. She also finished third in the 60 hurdles (8.82).

This indoor season, Natitus has the ninth-best 400 time in the state (56.86) in the rankings on pa.milesplit.com. She is also ranked fifth in the state for the 60 hurdles (8.80).

McCoy won the 400 in 51.85. Underwood won the long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 10.5 inches. Both athletes highlighted a good meet by the Wilkes-Barre Area team. Timothy Leonard finished second in the 60 (6.98), Kevon Creech was 10th in the 200 (23.82), and Jaida Underwood was eighth in the girls’ high jump (5-1).

Holy Cross’ Brandan Fadl had the best finish among LTC athletes. He was seventh in the shot put with a mark of 48-1.

Delaware Valley’s Emma Simmons finished ninth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.56. That ranks as the top time among LTC athletes this season in the event.

Simmons also finished 19th in the 60 (8.33).

Lakeland junior Henry Decker did the distance double. He ran a 4:41.78 in the One Mile for an LTC-best time and finished 12th. He also ran the 3,000 and finished 11th (9:40.54).

Lakeland sophomore Bria Hill finished ninth in the 400 (1:02.52) and 11th in the 200 (27.19).

Montrose’s Max Kuwaye finished 13th in the long jump with a distance of 19-11. He also finished 19th in the 60 in 7.30 for an LTC-best time this winter.

Mid Valley’s Matthew Repecki also raced in the One Mile and finished 16th (4:50.86).

North Pocono’s Elizabeth Moore finished 19th in the 60 hurdles (11.27).

Among other athletes from the Wyoming Valley Conference, Crestwood’s Mason Staude finished sixth in the One Mile (4:32.87), and James Zaroda finished 15th in the 400 (1:00.84).

Crestwood’s girls’ Distance Medley team finished seventh (13:08.93), and the 3,200 relay finished 13th (10:22.56). The boys’ 3,200 relay team finished 11th (10:06.17).

Dallas’ Trevor Slavinski was eighth in the 400 (53.83).
