Rookie running back Emmett Johnson is expected to develop into a top contributor for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Johnson excelled with the Nebraska Cornhuskers last year before declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft. During his standout junior campaign in Lincoln, Johnson led the Big Ten in rushing yards with 1,451 and scored 12 rushing touchdowns.
The 22-year-old became accustomed to receiving a heavy workload in his final season with the Cornhuskers, receiving a conference-leading 251 carries in 2025.
Being able to hone his craft under Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy will serve Johnson well — potentially enabling him to become faster, stronger, and more skilled at maneuvering his way through Kansas City's new-look offensive line.
Johnson's raw talent should help him earn a valuable role behind Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III and might also aid his effort to supplant veteran Kareem Hunt as the Chiefs' No. 2 option in the ground game.
