BATON ROUGE – Lane Kiffin's rebuild of LSU football's offense is starting to take shape.

The last biggest piece of the puzzle for him and his offensive is filling out the bodies and depth along the offensive line. LSU got another quality player to add to the mix as Baylor sophomore transfer offensive lineman Sean Thompkins commits to LSU football, per his agents.

Thompkins was initially committed to North Carolina out of the transfer portal but LSU got him to flip.

Last season, the 6-5, 300-pounder started five games for the Bears. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Why Sean Thompkins picked LSU football out of transfer portal

Thompkins was just on campus Thursday for a visit and it's apparent that what the LSU program has to offer him along with the prospect of playing in Kiffin's offense was enough to persuade him to decommit from North Carolina and join the Tigers.

Plenty of schools were after him in the portal and LSU wins the sweepstakes.

How Sean Thompkins will fit LSU football's roster

By the midway points of last season, Thompkins earned a full-time starting role at tackle for Baylor. That's exactly what LSU needs. The biggest area where LSU underperformed a season ago was at the tackle positions on both sides as the team was very young at those spots.

Thompkins brings experience to the tackle group and he will be vying for a starting role.

LSU football transfer targets

  • Ohio State safety Faheem Delane
  • Ole Miss linebacker T.J. Dottery

When does transfer portal close?

The NCAA transfer portal window closes Jan. 16. Players cannot enter their name in the portal following that date, but those whose name is already in the transfer portal can still decide and sign with a new school after Jan. 16.
