Saturday at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a two-session day, and it matters more than most.

The Sprint Race and main Grand Prix qualifying both take place in Montreal on Saturday, with the Sprint handing out real championship points and qualifying setting the grid for Sunday’s race.

This is also the first Canadian Grand Prix to be held in May, after the race shifted from its traditional mid-June slot it had occupied since 1982.

George Russell took Sprint pole by 0.068 seconds over championship leader and Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli, who arrives in Montreal with a 20-point lead after winning the previous three Grands Prix.

Saturday Session Times

The Sprint gets underway at noon local time in Montreal on Saturday, May 23, with qualifying scheduled for 4:00 p.m. local.

For US viewers on the East Coast, that translates to 12:00 p.m. ET for the Sprint and 4:00 p.m. ET for qualifying.

UK viewers on BST will see the Sprint at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying at 9:00 p.m.

Conditions in Montreal are currently temperate and cloudy, with the potential for light rain on Saturday adding another variable for teams and drivers to manage.

Where to Watch

In the United States, Apple TV has replaced ESPN as the home of F1 for the 2026 season.

Apple TV is carrying all sessions from Canada, with a subscription running $12.99 per month after a seven-day free trial.

Netflix is also simulcasting the entire Canadian GP weekend alongside Apple TV, marking the streaming platform’s first-ever live F1 race weekend.

For US Netflix subscribers, the full weekend is included on all plans at no extra cost.

In the UK, Sky Sports holds exclusive live F1 rights in 2026, with every session on Sky Sports F1.

Streaming access is available via NOW from £14.99.

Highlights from qualifying are also available free on Channel 4.

For fans watching in Canada, CTV is showing the full home race weekend live at no cost.

TSN is the subscription alternative, carrying live coverage of every F1 session across the 2026 season.

Live timing is also available free through the F1 app across all sessions if you just want to follow along without a subscription.

With Russell on Sprint pole and Antonelli close behind, the opening race of Saturday should tell us plenty about where the intra-Mercedes fight stands – and whether McLaren, who locked out the second row with Norris and Piastri over three tenths behind Russell, are genuinely in the mix or just along for the ride.
