Rivals square off for positioning in Group B at the 2026 IIHF World Championship on Saturday when Slovakia (3-1-0-0, 11 points) and Czechia (3-0-1-0, 10 points) face off in Fribourg, Switzerland.

Slovakia kept Denmark winless on Thursday, taking a 5-1 victory in a dominant performance that saw the Slovakians outshoot the Danes 44-14. Martin Chromiak (Ontario Reign, AHL) put Slovakia in front to stay with a goal at 9:28 of the first period before Adam Liska (Sverstal Cherepovets, Russia), Oliver Okuliar (Skellefteå AIK, Sweden), Martin Pospisil (Calgary Flames), and Sebastián Čederle (HK Nitra, Slovakia) followed with scores. Okuliar added two assists in a three-point performance, and Samuel Hlavaj (Iowa Wild, AHL) made 13 saves to claim the win in net.
Czechia was finally able to solve Italian goalie Damian Clara in the third period, netting three goals for a 3-1 come-from-behind victory on Wednesday. Jakub Flek (HC Kometa Brno, Czechia) put the Czechs on top at 11:05 of the period after Marek Alscher (Florida Panthers) tied the game 5:14 into the period. Dominik Kubalik (EV Zug, Switzerland) sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final minute as Czechia outshot Italy 58-15. Dominik Pavlát (Ilves, Finland) stopped 14 shots in the victory.
Five players enter the game with two goals each for Slovakia, with Liska posting a team-high five points. Hlavaj enters with a .946 save percentage and 1.00 goals against average in two starts. Kubalik paces Czechia with three goals, and David Tomášek (Färjestad BK, Sweden) leads the team with five points, all assists.
