Reserve quarterbacks take center stage as the 2026 NFL season kicks off Thursday night with the Carolina Panthers taking on the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.

Arizona third-round pick Carson Beck gets the call at quarterback for Thursday night, with starter Jacoby Brissett and backup Gardner Minshew sitting out the preseason opener. No. 3 overall pick Jeremiyah Love won’t play as the Cardinals will look at other running backs on the roster in Canton. Arizona has a new coach in former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, the younger brother of Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur.

The Panthers will rest their starters on Thursday as they come off an 8-9 season and the NFC South title. Newly signed Kenny Pickett gets the start at quarterback for Carolina after spending last season with the Las Vegas Raiders.
