Age is just a number, right @Ronin ? LOL
:biglaugh:
I'm going and I'm not happy about it.lol
I didn't want to go but my 25 year old nephew was going to go by himself. He loves movies. He's a movie geek. I'm not. He's already bought tickets for Superman. Luckily the rest of my family said they go. I was like I'm out.
but eh it gets me out of the house, so I said I'll go.

I don’t usually like the live action remakes of classics, and I do hold the OG animated film in pretty high regard, but this was pretty damn good. It was kinda the perfect movie to adapt this way. The special effects were great, and the casting for the main players was great, but I was never really won over by Hiccup like I was in the original. Tough to match Baruchel’s voice performance and that held the movie back a little bit.

But overall, pretty fun and great on the IMAX in 3D, especially the flying scenes.

Over $250 .I'll in the first week is solid... they say it's expected to hit $925 mill before it's done...crazy.

But you just gotta love Hollywood math.

Film budget=$150mil
Advertising=100mil
Break even point=$500mil

So they apparently don't count profit until they double their money.

It's because they don't get 100% of the box office. In the states the studio gets roughly 60%. For international it's even less. China they only get about 20%. I usually use 40% when roughing in the foreign markets. A general rule of thumb to make it easy is 3x production budget to break even.

Family went to go see this on opening weekend. It was rough. My niece who passed, Toothless was her favorite character. When thy announced this was being made she was ecstatic through the roof. She didn't get to see this but I think should would have loved it. It would have been disappointing had this sucked. Thankfully it was a really good live action remake and we take some solace in that.
