The Avalanche return home Wednesday with a chance to eliminate the Wild after taking a 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference second round.

Colorado pushed Minnesota to the brink with a 5-2 Game 4 win Monday, getting the go-ahead goal from Parker Kelly with 8:28 left before Nathan MacKinnon and Brock Nelson added late empty-netters. Mackenzie Blackwood made 19 saves in his first playoff start of the year, while Minnesota started Jesper Wallstedt, who stopped 29 of 32 shots.

The Wild’s path to extending the series is tougher because Joel Eriksson Ek and Jonas Brodin will not travel for Game 5 as they continue dealing with lower-body injuries. Minnesota did show it can hit Colorado back, winning Game 3 by a 5-1 score behind Kirill Kaprizov, but the Avalanche have scored 24 goals through four games in the series, including a 9-6 Game 1 win and two separate 5-2 victories.
Physicality is also becoming a major storyline after Josh Manson was fined $5,000 for a butt-ending incident involving Michael McCarron in Game 4. That adds another edge to Game 5, where Colorado can close out the series at Ball Arena, while Minnesota needs its best defensive effort of the series to keep its season alive.
This is a great NHL matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
