Both the United States and Spain are aiming to conclude their undefeated runs at the inaugural World Rugby Nations Cup as they clash in North Carolina.

The United States and Spain each boast unbeaten records ahead of their collision in the final round of this summer’s inaugural World Rugby Nations Cup on Saturday. The Eagles are one point off the top of the Americas-Pacific pool heading to WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, while the same is true for Spain in the European-African-Asian pool, where Georgia maintain a slim lead.
The USA left it late to secure a bonus-point 31-15 win over Zimbabwe last weekend, where Old Glory DC back-rower Cory Daniel went over for their fourth try in the 77th minute. Pool leader Chile is the only other team to win two from two in the opening weekends of the new competition.
Spain, meanwhile, would already sit at the top of its pool were it not for an injury-time try conceded against Canada in the opening round of the tournament. That 42-42 draw proceed a morale-boosting 32-19 win over Tonga last Saturday, however, where replacement center Inaki Mateu scored 10 of their 13 second-half points off the bench.
The Eagles won each of their opening two encounters against Spain in years gone by, but the Lions made the rivalry interesting with a first win when these teams met last year. USA coach Scott Lawrence will be desperate to avoid a repeat of that result on home soil and give his side the best chance possible of finishing this summer leg of the Rugby Nations Cup atop their table.
