France and Norway are playing for all the marbles at Gillette Stadium on Friday, with top spot in Group I on the line at World Cup 2026.

Norway needs a win over France at Gillette Stadium on Friday if it’s to complete a perfect run through the pool stage and finish first in Group I. Both teams have already beaten Senegal and Iraq to guarantee their places in the last 32 but are still battling it out for the best possible route into the knockout stages.
Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe have each looked electric leading the attacks of their respective teams on four goals apiece. Only Argentina’s Lionel Messi has scored more than either player thus far at World Cup 2026 after converting five times, but a clash of titans nonetheless awaits in Foxborough.
With a draw all that’s needed for Les Bleus to tie down first place in Group I, Didier Deschamps may be tempted to entrust some of his less key men and rotate his squad. However, Norway counterpart Stale Solbakken will not be holding back as he attempts to usurp the throne in Group I and snag top spot before all is said and done.
The only new injury concern in either camp concerns Julian Ryerson, who was withdrawn during Norway’s 3-2 win over Senegal having already been a doubt prior to that game. Each of these teams has earned one win apiece over one another from their last two meetings, though France traditionally holds the upper hand in this rivalry and boasts seven wins compared to Norway’s three overall.
