The No. 5-seeded North Carolina Tar Heels (50-12-1) return to the College World Series for the second time in three years to face an unseeded Ole Miss Rebels (41-21) squad in a first-round game at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
Ole Miss Rebels’ Dom Decker (12) throws the ball to first base as Auburn Tigers take on Ole Miss Rebels during the NCAA Super Regional game two at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Ala. on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
North Carolina advanced through the lone Super Regional to go the full three games, scoring twice in the bottom of the ninth of the finale on Sunday to beat USC 4-3 in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels trailed 3-1 before getting a run in the eighth on Macon Winslow’s double. In the ninth, Jake Schaffner hit a game-tying sacrifice fly to center field before Owen Hull ended it with a walk-off double to deep left field. Hull leads North Carolina with 81 RBI this season while Cooper Nicholson has 16 home runs and Schaffner comes in with 25 stolen bases in 28 attempts.
Judd Utermark drove in four runs in two games as Ole Miss swept the Auburn Super Regional from their SEC rivals with 6-4 and 5-3 victories last weekend. Ole Miss got the win in the clincher with a three-run eighth inning. Will Furniss’ two-run homer put the Rebels in the lead and Tristan Bissetta followed with a solo shot for some insurance. Bissetta comes to Omaha with team-highs of 23 home runs and 61 RBI while Utermark has 22 homers on the season.
The winner advances Sunday night against the winner of Friday afternoon’s winner between West Virginia and Troy, with the losers playing an elimination game on Sunday afternoon. North Carolina is playing its 13th College World Series and has never won the event, finishing as runner-up in both 2006 and 2007. Ole Miss makes its seventh CWS appearance and its first since claiming its first national championship in 2022.
This is a great college baseball matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
