The struggling Atlanta Braves (51-35) won for just the third time in 11 games on Friday night and can clinch their holiday weekend series with the scuffling New York Mets (36-52) with a win at Truist Park on Saturday night.

Atlanta rode the long ball to a 5-3 victory over the Mets on Friday night, with Matt Olson hitting a pair of solo home runs while Michael Harris II added a two-run shot and Ozzie Albies also went deep. Grant Holmes picked up the win, allowing a run on five hits over five innings. Four of the Braves’ five hits on the night came via home runs.
The Mets fell to 2-11 in their last 13 games, with Christian Scott getting roughed up for three runs on just two hits, walking four, and striking out seven in four innings. Juan Soto hit a two-run homer in the third to cut Atlanta’s lead to 3-2, and Bo Bichette added an RBI single in the ninth as New York’s rally fell short.
Veteran left-hander Chris Sale (8-6) draws the start for the Braves on Saturday night, coming in with a 2.10 ERA and 1.078 WHIP in 90 innings over 15 starts, striking out 109. Lefty Sean Manaea (1-3) makes his fifth straight start for New York after opening the season in the bullpen and has a 4.71 ERA and 1.365 WHIP in 18 appearances and 63 innings, posting 64 strikeouts.
