The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres have been locked in a tight battle for first place in the National League West throughout the 2026 season, making every matchup between the division rivals increasingly important. The teams continue their three-game series Tuesday night at Petco Park after the Padres secured a 1-0 win in Monday’s opener to move into first place by a half-game over Los Angeles.

The Dodgers came into Monday’s game on a five-game winning streak, but that was snapped thanks to a solo home run by Miguel Andujar in the first inning. That win extended the Padres’ winning streak, which is now at four games.
The Padres will try to continue their win streak when Griffin Channing takes the mound. Channing has yet to win a game this season, coming into the contest 0-2 with a 10.64 ERA. He lasted just 1.2 innings in his previous outing against the Milwaukee Brewers. He gave up six runs on five hits in the loss.
The Dodgers will counter with Emmet Sheehan and try to even the series while also taking sole possession of first place in the division. Sheehan comes into the game 3-1 with a 4.54 ERA on the season. The right-hander picked up a win in his last start, allowing two runs on two hits in six innings of work against the San Francisco Giants.
San Diego (29-18) has a 14-10 record at home, while Los Angeles (29-19) is 14-9 on the road.
