For the third time this season, the Nashville Predators and Los Angeles Kings met in a shootout on April 6.

Unfortunately for the Predators, this time the Kings were victorious.

Adrian Kempe scored the only goal in the shootout at Crypto.com Arena for the 3-2 win over Nashville. The Predators' loss comes four days after beating the Kings in an eight-round shootout on April 2, which had put the Predators ahead of the Kings in the wild-card race.

"Seems like a similar game to last game," captain Roman Josi told FanDuel Sports Network after the game. "Just a tight, playoff kind of game.

Joel Armia put the Kings up 1-0 in the first, but Steven Stamkos tied the game in the second. Then, after Scott Laughton put the Kings back on top, Josi tied the game again, which eventually led to overtime and the shootout.

"They were better in the first (period) and were on us, but I thought we played a lot better in the second and third," Josi said. "I wish we would have gotten another point, but we're playing with a lot of energy right now."

All three Predators forwards — Ryan O'Reilly, Filip Forsberg and Luke Evangelista — were stopped by Kings goalie Anton Forsberg.

The loss means the Predators (36-31-10, 82 points) is once again outside of the wild card with five games to play. They hold the regulation wins tiebreaker over Los Angeles (32-26-19, 83 points) with 26 regulation wins, but the San Jose Sharks (37-32-7, 82 points) can pass both teams with an extra win in their final six games.

According to Money Puck, the Predators' playoff chances dropped to 26.3% with the shootout loss.

But the Predators aren't out of it yet. They have five more games left to get back into position, the first being a matchup with the Ducks on April 7 (9 p.m. CT, FanDuel Sports Network):

  • April 7: at Anaheim Ducks
  • April 9: at Utah Mammoth
  • April 11: Minnesota Wild
  • April 13: San Jose Sharks
  • April 16: Anaheim Ducks
