The Boston Red Sox made one of Major League Baseball's boldest moves of the MLB trade deadline, acquiring Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles in a blockbuster deal.

It's a massive trade, adding a three-time All-Star catcher to the team. But, beyond simply adding a top-tier player at the catcher position, this trade made some interesting MLB history.

Jayson Stark of The Athletic highlighted how the Red Sox made some never-before-done MLB history with this Rutschman trade, as a player like Rutschman has never been dealt mid-season before in MLB history.

"So how shocking was this? For one thing, there had never been a position player who A) was a former No. 1 overall pick, B) was as young as Rutschman (28), and C) had rolled up as many bWAR as Rutschman (16.7) - who had ever been traded in the middle of any season. Until now," Stark writes.

There have been some truly incredible players traded during the season before, but there has not been a player like Rutschman on the move ever.

While it does take three caveats for this history, a player being 28 years old and younger, with at least 16.7 bWAR, and being a former No. 1 overall pick isn't an extreme set of circumstances to beat.

There has never been a player like Rutschman traded at the mid-season mark, and what makes this deal even more interesting is that Rutschman is under club control for 2027 and is also currently on the injured list.

This is a one-of-a-kind trade in MLB history, and it's the kind of trade that might be talked about for a very long time. Whether it's good or bad for the Red Sox, it's way too early to tell.

But this deal is one of the more fascinating ones in MLB history, as there is so much at stake, and so many layers to this trade that it's bound to captivate for years to come.
