Paul Skenes got the start for the Pittsburgh Pirates' series finale against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. In his seventh start of the season, he ended up on the losing side.

Despite playing well initially, Skenes took his third loss of the season. He threw four scoreless frames then gave up three in the fifth inning. Dansby Swanson, Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki each hit home runs off of Skenes in the frame to give the Cubs the lead for good.

Following Skenes' exit, the Pirates mustered just one run in the eight inning. They ultimately fell short 8-3 and lost the series to the Cubs but will continue a homestead with a weekend series against the San Diego Padres.

Overall, Skenes allowed five hits and issued four walks to go with two strikeouts through five innings of work. He threw 86 pitches and 49 of them went for strikes. Thursday's result brings his ERA to 2.74 and WHIP to 0.91.
