After a stellar start Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, former LSU baseball star Paul Skenes will take the mound again when the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Chicago Cubs.

Skenes will start on Thursday inside PNC Park for a 12:35 PM start. It will be his sixth start in 2025, and he'll look to improve upon a 3-2 record. He'll likely face right-hander Colin Rea, who has a 0.96 ERA through 18.2 innings pitched this season.

Last time out, Skenes held the Dodgers scoreless through his 6.1 innings of work. He surrendered five hits and struck out nine, including Shohei Ohtani, without allowing a walk. Following Skenes' exit, three Pirates' receivers combined to keep the Dodgers scoreless in a 3-0 victory.

Skenes boasts a 2.39 ERA in 2025, which ranks ninth in the national league. Through 37.2 innings, he totaled 39 strikeouts while giving up 12 runs on 26 hits. He's coming off a rookie season in which he started the All-Star game for the National League.

Skenes pitched at LSU in 2023, where he helped lead the Tigers to a College World Series title.
