AUBURN, AL — There's no question who is Ole Miss baseball second baseman Dom Decker's source of inspiration.
Decker, a junior who transferred from Murray State, has helped lead the Rebels (39-21) to an NCAA Tournament super regional appearance. Ole Miss will face Auburn (42-20) on June 5 (7 p.m., ESPN2) at Plainsman Park. It's the first game in a best-of-three series.
Decker is the son of Joe and Stephanie Decker, and has two siblings: Reese and Nolan.
The Decker family made national news in March 2012 for Stephanie's actions at their Henryville, Indiana, home. A tornado destroyed their home in an outbreak that included 140 reported tornadoes and 39 deaths.
Stephanie shielded Dom, who was 8, and Reese, who was 5, with a comforter. She was crushed with debris. Injures later forced both of her legs to be amputated, one just below the knee and the other just above it.
"I remember the whole thing," Stephanie told ABC News. "I stayed conscious the whole time. I couldn't afford (to pass out). They needed me. They had to have me, so I had to figure out what to do. And my son is a hero. He went to get help."
Stephanie has been on the cover of People Magazine and is a motivational speaker through the Stephanie Decker Foundation. The Deckers were later invited to the White House to meet with President Biden.
Decker has been an everyday starter for the Rebels since transferring from Murray State. Decker was a key part of the Racers team that upset Ole Miss in the 2025 Oxford Regional.
Decker is batting .273 with 10 home runs. He has primarily batted in the leadoff spot. He has 50 walks and 45 strikeouts. Decker hit the game-winning sacrifice fly to clinch the Lincoln Regional against Arizona State.
