Former Georgia Bulldogs safert Malaki Starks was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens with the 27th pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Starks makes an interesting duo with former Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton, and considering the Ravens' propensity to develop defensive backs, Starks is on track to make a major impact as a rookie.
Starks is expected to sign a four-year, $16.5 million deal from his rookie contract, according to Spotrac. That means he will make an average $4.1 million per season along with a significant $8.6 million signing bonus. The Ravens also have a fifth-year option on the contract, like every other first-round pick.
Malaki Starks is a versatile defender that can play multiple positions. With Georgia, he played both a ball-hawking deep safety and nickel corner role. While there are beliefs that he should tidy up his run defense and open field tackling, Starks had many impressive interceptions and is excellent in coverage.
As a result, many people have compared Starks to Atlanta Falcons safety Jessie Bates. Coincidentally enough, the Falcons, who have Bates, traded up to the 26th overall pick. Atlanta could've selected Starks, but they decided to double down on edge rushing help with Tennessee Volunteers edge James Pearce.
